Iberia

Mormedi, a Spanish design studio, contacted ZGD in 2006 in order to develop a portfolio of aviation clients. In 2008, Iberia asked the team to generate a strategy for the future of its fleet and cabin interiors.
The fleet of A340s was aging, especially its interiors, and the competition had begun to offer much better products (for example a completely flat seat in Business Class). At the same time, the airline had to choose between the B777/787 and the B748i on one side, and the A330/350 and A380 on the other as a new twin aisle plane.

A preliminary study was conducted to help the airline orientate and define whether to start a retrofit on the current A340s with a very innovative product, or wait until the introduction of the new planes before doing so and just install an improved version of the existing product on the current fleet.
The study was part of a bidding process for the Cabin Interior project.
The contribution of ZGD covered detailed insight into the aviation industry, spanning from seat manufacturers to the latest products & seat concepts, from specific airline seat typology to aircraft purchase plans, to name but a few. Mormedi was supported in the creation of an aircraft interior specialized team who helped them expand their market and gain visibility in the industry.
